Meet Dr. Cassidy

Dr. Megan Cassidy loves the ability to build long-term relationships with her patients, working together to keep them healthy and happy. In fact, it’s the reason she decided to become an OB/GYN. So as her patient population has transitioned to the next phase of their gynecologic care, she realized that she needed to transition with them. In 2022, she became a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner.

The new interest and research into the menopausal transition has been great, but it has also resulted in a lot of pseudo scientific, unproven information being touted as fact. Dr. Cassidy loves keeping up with the newest evidence-based data in order to effectively–and safely–help women manage the symptoms of menopause that are affecting their quality of life. She enjoys educating her patients and explaining what’s normal, what’s not, and how we can manage symptoms to improve quality of life.

Dr.  Cassidy’s other specialties in the diverse field of gynecology include preventative care, contraception consultations, fertility evaluations, and a woman’s first visit to the gynecologist, which while anxiety-provoking can also be empowering. She really enjoys helping women through it and making it as easy as possible.

Coming from a family of physicians and nurses, Dr. Cassidy was drawn to medicine since she was a little kid. She became the first female physician in her family. Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Cassidy decided that, upon completion of her undergraduate degree at UCLA, it was time for a change of scenery for medical school. She fell in love with the trees and seasons in Virginia, as well as the school itself, ending up at the University of Virginia for her medical degree and obstetrics and gynecology residency.

Dr. Cassidy brought her husband east as well. After a few years here, they decided not to go back to California and settled in to raise their family in Richmond. They have three children – all swimmers – so the family spends a lot of time at the pool and traveling for competitions.

Dr. Cassidy loves running (she’s run the Boston Marathon several times!) and is currently signed up for her first 100-miler. She’s also done 3 IronMans. In her downtime (if you can believe she has any!), Dr. Cassidy loves to knit.

Having served women in the Richmond area since 2013, Dr. Cassidy is thrilled to become part of the VPFW team that, through both administrative support and clinical excellence, strives to provide the best patient care available.
