Meet Dr. Zavelsky

Dr. Zavelsky is very excited to be joining the practice as one of VPFW’s newest OB/GYNs! Throughout her life, she has always been deeply inspired by the strength and resilience of women, and their ability to support and uplift one another. As a result, she is passionate about providing compassionate and inclusive care to women at every stage of life. She combines her expertise with a warm and empathetic approach, recognizing that a visit to the gynecologist can be one of the most vulnerable moments of a woman’s life. She strives to treat each of her patients with dignity and respect for their bodily autonomy, as well as provide a safe space in which patients can find the high-quality care that they need without stigma.

Dr. Zavelsky grew up in Richmond, Virginia, where she met her husband while they were still in high school. They both went on to attend the College of William & Mary, where her love for the sciences was cultivated. During her final year, she became a medical scribe in the Williamsburg Emergency Department. She then went on to help start a new scribe program in the VCU Emergency Department, where she worked as the Head Scribe for a year prior to starting medical school at the VCU School of Medicine. She then completed her OB/GYN residency at EVMS in Norfolk, VA, which she very nostalgically recounts as the four hardest but best years of her life thus far.

Now, she is thrilled to be back home in Richmond, serving the community that holds a very special place in her heart. From the very first time she met the VPFW crew, she knew it was a team she wanted to be a part of. “It’s rare to find a place that values camaraderie, wellness, and support post-residency, so I feel very lucky to be here,” says Dr. Zavelsky about her new colleagues.

When she’s not seeing patients or delivering babies, Dr. Zavelsky loves to travel, attend her husband’s improv shows, spend time with friends and family, shop, explore new restaurants (she’s a foodie!), and dream about becoming a Sommelier.
