Please join VPFW in supporting victims of sexual assault and the James House Shelter by wearing denim and donating on Denim Day, Wednesday, April 26th.
Women and men across the world wear denim on the 4th Wednesday of April every year to shine a light on the fact that victim blaming is still happening and there is no excuse for rape.
Why Denim?
Denim Day came to be after a sexual assault conviction in Italy was overturned by the Italian Supreme Court in 1999 because the victim had been wearing tight-fitting jeans at the time of her rape. A statement from the Court argued that because the victim wore very tight jeans, she had to have helped her rapist remove them, meaning it was not rape but consensual sex.
Donate to the James House Shelter
Please join VPFW employees in wearing denim and making a donation to the James House shelter in Prince George in support of victims of sexual assault on April 26. You can also donate by texting “DONATE” to 804-326-4111. Denim Day donations to the James House provide critical financial support for women, men, and children affected by sexual violence in the Greater Tri-Cities Area of Virginia.
