Meet Nurse Practitioner Melissa Foster

While women’s health and oncology may not seem like an obvious pair, Melissa has a passion for both. Feeling called to care for women who have personally walked through a cancer diagnosis or who have been closely affected by one, Melissa is a former oncology certified nurse. She has experience caring for women undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, and she understands the short and long-term side effects and complications that go along with these treatments. Melissa is also passionate about cancer prevention and is a strong advocate of routine visits for women of all ages. Melissa and Stevie, her nurse, are also known for recognizing the value of each woman’s time and strive to provide excellent, personal care.

When she’s not busy caring for her patients at VPFW, Melissa can usually be found spending time with her family. Born in Germany (she moved to the U.S. when she was three), she enjoys traveling to visit relatives who still reside in Europe, and she also enjoys visiting family in North Carolina and in the Gloucester/Mathews area. Her immediate family is comprised of her husband and high school sweetheart, and their two young children, a boy and a girl. They love to spend time having family dinners on the back porch of their home in New Kent, heading to festivals, and spending Sunday mornings at Fairmount Christian Church in Mechanicsville. In between gymnastics, dance classes, and PTO meetings, you’ll also find Melissa and her husband making time for just the two of them during date nights.
