Meet Dr. Grove

Dr. Marie K. Grove joined the VPFW family in 2024 and sees patients at our St. Mary’s and Henrico Doctors’ Hospital locations. She has been providing compassionate OB/GYN care to women in greater Richmond since 2019, and she strives for her patients to leave each visit feeling comfortable, satisfied, and in control of their health.

The reason Dr. Grove became an OB/GYN is her passion for advocating for and empowering women through their health journeys. She finds it incredibly fulfilling to provide continuity of care through all phases of women’s lives, from adolescence to menopause.

Dr. Grove loves educating her patients on preventative care and helping them with contraception management. She also enjoys helping them understand common gynecological issues like fibroids, PCOS, or other reasons why they might be experiencing pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding. Her specialties also include low-intervention birth as well as low- and high-risk obstetric care.

Dr. Grove is also passionate about providing patients with top-quality minimally invasive surgical care, including da Vinci robotic surgery. In fact, she’s received several awards for her surgery expertise, including the Medarva Patient Choice Award (2020), the Chief Resident Grand Rounds Award (2019), AAGL’s recognition of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (2019), and the society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons’ Resident Achievement Award (2018).

After receiving her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Maryland in College Park where she also played lacrosse, Dr. Grove studied medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. She then completed her internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at VCU Medical Center and decided to stay and practice in Richmond.

One of the main reasons Dr. Grove was excited to join VPFW is how the practice allows the fostering of closer relationships with patients by providing a supportive environment that emphasizes personalized, continuous care. She cherishes the ability to develop lifelong relationships with her patients and offer them consistent support and guidance. Witnessing their growth and being a trusted part of their lives makes her job incredibly rewarding.

Combining her love of travel with her passion for helping women in need, Dr. Grove went to Ghana on a medical mission trip to provide primary care for women. While there, she developed a program to teach elementary and middle school girls about preventative care. She was grateful for the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of women who have very limited access to care.

Outside of caring for patients, Dr. Grove enjoys spending time with her husband and four young children, as well as their two labradors. She loves exploring Richmond and going on family trips to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. You can also find Dr. Grove hiking, running, reading, and cooking.
