Meet Nurse Practitioner Lauren Cook

Lauren comes to VPFW from the Women’s Health and Oncology Units at Johnston-Willis Hospital where she worked as a Nurse, Clinical Coordinator, and Assistant Director since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Shenandoah University in 2010.

Lauren realized from providing years of nursing care on the Women’s Health Unit that this is a specialty that goes deeper than just obstetrics, pap smears and mammograms. Through her work with patients on both the Women’s Health and Oncology Units, and her passion for the health of women at all stages of their lives, Lauren believed that she could do more to help the women she served if she were a Nurse Practitioner. Not only would she be able to provide clinical nursing skills, but also the knowledge, patient education, and counseling that women deserve.

Lauren set out on a journey to earn a graduate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and ended up earning a dual degree in Women’s Health and Adult-Gerontology Primary Care. She is Board Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in both fields. While completing her graduate studies, Lauren worked several clinical rotations with VPFW. Through her clinical experiences, and her interaction with VPFW patients and staff, she soon realized that working here would be a dream come true.

Lauren grew up locally in Chester and is a graduate of L.C. Bird High School. She ventured out after high school to Winchester where she met her husband at Shenandoah. They met as freshman athletes, so their paths crossed often – Brian played football and Lauren played softball. Some might say she was the better athlete of the two … shhh, don’t tell him! They married after graduation and settled in Chesterfield with their two fur babies, Duke and Roscoe. They enjoy traveling (especially if a sandy beach or college football game are on the itinerary – Go Hokies!), playing co-ed softball, CrossFit, craft brewery hopping and spending time with family and friends.
