Meet Dr. Jessica Amero

Dr. Jessica Amero joined VPFW in 2026 with the goal of providing equitable, evidence-based, and compassionate obstetric and gynecologic care that empowers patients to better understand their bodies and their health. She is dedicated to building lasting relationships with her patients while supporting them through every stage of life—from adolescence and family planning to pregnancy, menopause, and beyond. She plans to complete the Menopause Society Certification in October, 2026.

Dr. Amero’s passion for women’s health began when she was a teenager. She spent several summers in Charleston, South Carolina, working with an OB/GYN who was also a close family friend. She fell in love with the breadth of her friend’s practice–how she could educate a teenager about her body during her first gynecology visit, then deliver the same patient’s children years later, and eventually help her navigate the challenges of perimenopause and beyond. Even in her teen years, Dr. Amero could not imagine a more rewarding career than helping women through both the everyday and most significant moments of their health journeys.

Dr. Amero earned her undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology before attending the Medical College of Georgia in Savannah. Her OB/GYN residency training brought her to Richmond, Virginia, a city she has since come to love for its vibrant community and people. Lucky for us, she loved it so much she decided to stay!

Having served as Chief Resident of Education at VCU, Dr. Amero found VPFW’s supportive culture and high standard for evidence-based medical care to be critical in her decision to join the practice. She is thrilled to be able to work alongside an amazing team of passionate providers, talented surgeons, and women’s health advocates. Their commitment to delivering personalized, high-quality care is exactly what she was looking for in her career as an OB/GYN. 

As a women’s health advocate, Dr. Amero has lobbied for statewide access to family planning and prenatal care and volunteered with non-profits that provide care, education, and empowerment to underserved women. She appreciates VPFW’s strong community presence and looks forward to volunteering with the practice’s many drives and outreach events lifting up the women in our community. 

A devoted cat mom to Moe and Daisy, Dr. Amero enjoys spending time on the James River, cooking, and playing pickleball when she’s not taking care of patients and delivering babies.
