Meet Dr. Kraus

Dr. Kraus joined VPFW in 2026, relocating to Richmond after several years of practicing in the Charlottesville area. He was originally drawn to OB/GYN because it combines his passion for complex medical and surgical care with his love of building long-term patient relationships. The field allows him to use both his technical skill and medical expertise while building trust and developing a genuine, lasting connection with his patients. Above all, he considers it an absolute privilege to care for women during some of the most significant moments of their lives.

Dr. Kraus believes that exceptional care begins with listening. The most meaningful feedback he receives is when a patient tells him she feels heard—more than by any physician she has seen before. At every appointment, his goals are for his patient to feel listened to, understand their healthcare options, and feel empowered as active partners in their medical decisions.

Joining VPFW has allowed Dr. Kraus to align with a practice known for its outstanding reputation and first-rate team of experienced providers, as well as its practice-wide commitment to comprehensive women’s health care. Caring for women throughout pregnancy and delivering babies remain among the most rewarding aspects of his own practice, and he is thrilled to join a team where obstetric care is a central focus.

Dr. Kraus’ commitment to medicine and community service was shaped early in life. He spent his high school years in Kenya, where his father served as a surgeon at a mission hospital. That formative experience instilled in him a deep appreciation for serving diverse cultures and the profound impact a physician can have within their community.

Outside of work, Dr. Kraus and his wife are busy raising their three young daughters. He often jokes that after devoting his career to caring for women, he was blessed to have a household full of them. In his free time, he enjoys staying active, spending time outdoors, and tackling home improvement projects.
