VPFW is thrilled to be the presenting sponsorship of the “Greenout” rivalry game which will include a giveaway and period supplies drive for Sylvia’s Sisters.
Virginia Physicians for Women is thrilled to return as a sponsor of the Richmond Ivy, the city’s new pre-professional women’s soccer team, with a presenting sponsorship of its second home match of the season. The Ivy takes on the Charlottesville Maurauders in the 64 Derby on May 17, 2025, at 6pm at City Stadium.
The promotional theme of the night is “Greenout,” and fans are asked to wear green to support the Ivy in their annual rivalry game. The first fans to enter the stadium that night will receive a green giveaway courtesy of VPFW.
VPFW will also be collecting period supplies at the game as part of its annual spring period supplies drive for Sylvia’s Sisters. Supplies can be donated at any of VPFW’s 6 locations through May 30 or at the game.
The Richmond Ivy is part of the USL W League, which enhances the women’s soccer pipeline between college and professional soccer. The sister team to the Richmond Kickers, the Ivy also plays all home games at the Kickers’ City Stadium.
The Ivy kicked off its inaugural season in May 2024, with VPFW sponsoring their home opener.
VPFW president Dr. Kenley Neuman, an avid soccer mom of three soccer players, was thrilled to jump on board as one of the Ivy’s first sponsors. Dr. Neuman grew up in Richmond and has been an OB/GYN with the practice since 2007.
“We were amazed by the turnout and energy when we sponsored last year’s home opener and are thrilled to sponsor the Ivy again this year,” says Dr. Neuman.
“It’s was such a fun experience and a great opportunity to show our passion for girls’ and women’s fitness and health. We can’t wait to bring our families back out to City Stadium and support the Ivy in their rivalry game with Charlottesville.”
Period supplies drive at the game
VPFW will have a table inside the main entrance where it will collect period supplies for Sylvia’s Sisters to benefit local students in need of quality period products.
Fans who purchase a ticket to the game are encouraged to bring any of the following period supplies to donate, which Sylvia’s Sisters will distribute to local elementary, middle, and high schools:
- Tampons (any size/absorbency)*
- Liners (individually wrapped only)*
- Maxi Pads (any size/absorbency)
- Leggings (Youth XS-XL and Adult XS-XL)
- Underwear (Youth XS-XL and Adult XS-XL)
Donating period supplies at the game is a great way for Ivy fans to join in VPFW’s commitment to supporting women’s health.
Leveling the playing field for girls
According to Sylvia’s Sisters, 1 in 4 girls miss school each year because they don’t have period supplies. A lack of supplies means missing sports and other activities as well.
“Access to period supplies is a huge part of maintaining health and wellness in our youth,” says Dr. Neuman.
“Beyond physical health and hygiene, having the quality period products young menstruators need will allow them to not only participate but thrive in sports, in the classroom, and in life.”
Dr. Neuman also applauded the career opportunities that the introduction of the Richmond Ivy team provides for women in our area. “It’s inspiring for young girls to see these new potential career paths the Ivy provides, from playing to coaching to working in the sport at a higher level.”
“I am especially excited for the positive role model the Richmond Ivy is for my daughter and so many female youth soccer players in the Richmond area.”
