You’ve probably heard about CoolSculpting, whether it’s on tv, on the radio, or online, the procedure is a hot topic these days. But what exactly is it, and how does it work? We’re here to help answer your top 10 questions!
1. How much does CoolSculpting cost?
The cost can vary based on where you’d like to be treated and how many treatments you need. Robyn or Kelly in our office would be happy to talk with you about pricing during your free assessment.
2. Is the procedure done with lasers?
No lasers here! CoolSculpting uses a cooling applicator that delivers precisely controlled cooling that gently and effectively targets the fat cells underneath the skin.
3. Does it hurt?
While all pain tolerance levels vary, CoolSculpting works by numbing the area you want to treat. Patients feel some discomfort, but it is not unbearable. As the cooling begins, patients typically feel intense cold for the first few minutes, but the feeling dissipates quickly. With some applicators, patients feel some pulling as suction is applied. The area generally goes numb within 5 to 10 minutes during treatment. Many people read, watch videos, work on their laptop, or even take a nap during their treatment.
4. How much time will I need for recovery?
You won’t need any time at all! Our patients can go on with their day–even go directly to the gym–after their treatments
5. How long will i have to wait to see results?
Patients typically start to see a difference in the treated areas two to three weeks following the procedure, but the majority of results can be seen after eight weeks. Those stubborn fat bulges start to disappear, leaving a more sculpted you. After your CoolSculpting treatment, you may not weigh less, but you’ll look thinner, and your clothes will fit better, feel better, and look better.
6. Does it really work?
Yes! All bodies are different, so results may be different for each person. The fat-freezing procedure reduces the number of fat cells in treated areas by about 20-25%. These fat cells are naturally processed and eliminated, so they won’t migrate to another area of your body. And, unlike what happens with other procedures, there’s no change to fat cells in untreated areas.
7. Where can I get CoolSculpting?
VPFW is accepting CoolSculpting patients at our West Creek office located in West Creek Medical Park in Short Pump at the intersection of Route 288 and Broad Street.
8. Are there any areas of the body CoolSculpting can’t treat?
CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the chin/neck area, thigh, abdomen, and flank along with “bra fat,” back fat, and underneath the buttocks. VPFW just started treating the underarm/tricep area with a smaller applicator. This new applicator allows more versatility with treatments for patients with smaller areas of fat. Areas with more muscle or not enough fat are not safe to treat, including calves, front of thighs, near shoulder, face, forearms, and buttocks.
9. If I’m taking anti-inflammatories, can I still receive treatments?
Patients taking anti-inflammatories (Aleve, Advil) cannot utilize CoolSculpting. The medication interferes with the process of fat cells dying in the body. We do suggest taking a pain reliever without an anti-inflammatory, such as Tylenol, for a few weeks if patients are able.
10. Can men get CoolSculpting done at VPFW?
Even men have stubborn fat! VPFW is happy to administer treatment for them, too!
